Whole symbol range is reported as definition, not just identifier

Why declaration background color highlights?
I disabled something other than vscode-php-intellisense.
It was not improved.

This is normal VSCode behaviour. Am I misunderstanding your question?

For javascript, only the definition name is highlighted.

Hey @felixfbecker,

We did a quick check and this issue looks very darn similar to

• #469 - Intellisense autocomplete also suggests private or protected method and properties
• #468 - Unable to format file
• #467 - Workspace Symbols not including packages in vendor directory

This could be a coincidence, but if any of these issues solves your problem then I did a good job 😄

If not, the maintainers will get to this issue shortly.
